Trend Micro shifts focus to the cloud

Changes to partner programme see security company placing a stronger focus on the cloud

Trend Micro has announced changes to its Affinity Partner Programme in the ANZ region to put a stronger focus on the cloud computing side of the business.

A new premium membership level, Affinity.CLOUD, has been introduced and will help Trend Micro partners grow their existing cloud business. It will offer incentives to new customer acquisition and greater rebates for business growth, along with larger marketing development funds.

The programme also includes two other levels: AffinityONE and Affinity Partners, which offer a range of incentives and support.

According to David Higgins, the company's director of Business Development and Channels for the ANZ region, the programme reflects feedback Trend Micro has received from channel partners and is also part of a “reorganisation at a corporate level”. “We want to be a leader of cloud security,” he says.

“The 2012 partner programme finetunes the partner benefits and adds improvements requested by Affinity members, particularly around simpler dealer registration,” he says.

“The key difference is the new Affinity.CLOUD tier. We’ll be looking for partners with a national presence, who understand the migration to the cloud and have an existing cloud business, and want to build their business with our proven cloud security,” adds Higgins. He adds that the company has not appointed partners to the new tier yet but is currently in discussions and hopes to make an appointment soon. “There’s no rush, want to make sure organisations understand where we’re trying to take Trend Micro,” adds Higgins.

This year, the company is also looking at growing its partner base in New Zealand. “The channel has a major role to play in driving the growth of cloud computing. Trend Micro has the most advanced cloud security offerings in the market and is the ideal partner for distributors and resellers aiming to build their cloud business,” says Dave Patnaik, managing director of Trend Micro ANZ.

“Our early R&D investment in cloud security is now bearing fruit, with Trend Micro ranked first in data server security, and our corporate goal is to be the number one vendor in cloud security. Furthermore, 2011 was a fantastic year for Trend Micro in Australia, with YoY growth of 21.6% in 1H 2011, well above the industry average. We are now ranked among the top two security vendors in the Australian software security market in revenue terms in 1H 2011,” adds Patnaik.
