Hi-Tech Awards finalists decided

Startup finalists include ArcActive, BIMstop, CropLogic, Invert Robotics, Im-Able and KlickEx

The finalists for this year’s Hi-Tech Awards were announced yesterday at events in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Now in their 18th year, the awards are run by the New Zealand Hi-Tech Trust, a not for profit organisation aimed at promoting and supporting the technology industry. Entries this year reached a record high of 180.

The awards are billed as a showcase for local technology but this year a new multinational category sponsored by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has allowed overseas-based companies to enter for the first time.

An eight-strong international judging panel for this year's awards includes Facebook investor Peter Thiel, Google director of engineering Craig Nevill-Manning, and senior vice president for Cisco, Howard Charney.

Winners will be announced at a function to be held at SkyCity in Auckland on May 11.
