Revera's customers to be moved to new SMX-based service

Cloud-based email security company SMX has signed a licensing and support agreement with datacentre and infrastructure provider Revera.

The SMX Cloud platform will replace Revera’s existing appliance-based security solutions.

Jason Porter, Revera’s general manager, technical operations, says the company will move quickly to migrate 5000 customers to the new SMX-based service, which will underpin Revera’s Homeland email security service.

“We’re delighted we can select a New Zealand-developed and supported cloud email security solution,” he says. “SMX had to compete against the best international competition to win the business.”

He says SMX offered compelling advantages, including speed and ease of implementation and on-going management.

“We can provision customers with the service in a matter of hours and, at the same time, give them the ability to configure and manage the system to best suit their business or organisation.

“All mail is scrubbed in New Zealand. That’s particularly important for the growing number of our government and local government customers who require a carrier-grade email service, with bullet-proof reliability and accuracy.”

He says the open architecture will enable Revera to add new features.

“We also liked the fact that SMX is paid for on a per user per month basis, with no additional hardware upgrade or software licensing costs or management overheads.”

SMX’s strategy of deploying its service “in country” ensures data is not routed through countries such as the US and comes under local law and jurisdiction.

SMX has become a dominant player in the New Zealand public sector, with more than 60 government and local government customers.

The Auckland-based company, which is privately owned, has a blue-chip list of 200 resellers and partners and more than 1200 customers, with 2 million users, in the Asia Pacific region. Major international partners include Symantec, Fujitsu, Message Systems, CMC India (a subsidiary of the Tata Group), Tsukaeru.net (Japan’s fastest-growing provider of hosted applications and services) and KVH, a Japanese network and managed service provider.

Revera is one of two companies selected last year to provide government Infrastructure as a Service. The other is Datacom.

SMX chief executive Jesse Ball says Revera’s decision to select SMX further validates the strategic work done in making the service fast and easy for companies to slot into their wider cloud offerings. “It also shows the importance of being able to filter mail in country,” he says. “That’s proving to be a powerful differentiator for us.”
