Revera plans twin datacentre on Upper Hutt site

New tier 3 datacentre built using just-in-time methodology

Revera has lit up its new Upper Hutt datacentre, at the same time announcing plans for a twin datacentre facility on a neighbouring 4000 square metre site.

Last year, Revera was appointed a government infrastructure-as-a service panel provider.

The new tier 3 datacentre, at Upper Hutt’s Alexander Industrial Park, was built using a just-in-time methodology, which general manager Robin Cockayne says more than halved the commissioning times that it has taken for other builds.

The 2500 square metre datacentre was up and running in six and a half months.

“Building a king-sized facility and asking people to come simply doesn’t add up,” he says. “In the New Zealand market you couldn’t be less green or less efficient. Unused capacity wastes energy, and technology ages when the facility fills up slowly, isolating clients from new technologies and design improvements.”

He says the just-in-time build and fit-out enlivens smaller-sized pods of capacity within the larger facility, accelerating capacity commissioning and providing more opportunities to embed on-going design and technology improvements.
