Comworth adds to rugged accessories portfolio

Havis and Infocase partner with the distributor

Comworth has strengthened its rugged accessories portfolio with the addition of vendors Havis and Infocase to its list of products.

The two vendors offer a range of mounting brackets and cases which enable technology solutions to reach further into the field, according to Rachel McBeth, product manager at Comworth.

Havis provides a range of mounting hardware for vehicles, allowing convenient positioning of Toughbook devices for those who work in their cars, boats or trucks. “These docking stations provide the safest, most reliable mounts to keep computers in place when on the move. The marine docking stations are designed to withstand jets of water from every direction - forces similar to those of heavy seas,” says McBeth. Infocase provides a range of cases, harnesses, and other protective solutions for mobile devices, including iPads and other tablet computers. “With the addition of an Infocase accessory, many ‘non-rugged’ devices gain a level of protection which elevates them to ‘semi-rugged’ status,” she adds. “This allows the user to take their technology with them into environments which might ordinarily be ruled out.”

The announcement comes shortly after Comworth's recent exclusive distribution deal with Panasonic for the Toughbook range in New Zealand.

According to the product manager, Comworth's additions follow a global trend of growth in the ruggedised technology field. Market researched VDC says these solutions are growing 7 percent per year, in a market worth over US$5 billion per annum. Growth expectations for New Zealand are said to be closer to 12 percent.

“There are at least two very good reasons behind the growth. The first is that with rugged devices, technology can go to previously off-limits places to extend the benefits associated with IT. The second is that the high failure rates of notebooks used in demanding circumstances are compelling IT managers to look for better options,” says McBeth.
