Kroll Ontrack pushing services into the local market

Joint partnership with Soft Solutions brings services opportunity to New Zealand resellers

Soft Solutions was already distributing some of Kroll Ontrack's software portfolio in New Zealand so the distributor was a natural choice for Kroll when the data recovery and information management provider decided to introduce its services to the local market.

Through Soft Solutions, the vendor is now making its Ontrack data recovery services available to the New Zealand market. The extended partnership means New Zealand customers have a local point of contact for Kroll Ontrack services business, including a NZ specific website, which the vendor has recently launched at

Kroll Ontrack already had some "referral work in New Zealand" for its services business but not one point of contact for services. In April this year, the company announced it was in discussions with Soft Solutions to further push data recovery services into the country.

“Virtualisation is here and now and it will be taking up even more in 2012,” Kroll Ontrack's Asia Pacific general manager Adrian Briscoe told Reseller Newsin May. “There are dangers with data loss. We have seen a spike in data recovery in the past couple of years.” According to Briscoe, the vendor recovered a total of 1.2GB of data in its first year of operations, in 1987. Last year, the total sat at 35 petabytes.

Now with an official partnership extension, resellers will be able to add the data recovery services to their portfolios. "It is an opportunity for people to go to Soft Solutions with their data recovery issues," says Briscoe, adding that data recovery has been getting more and more complex and hard to deal with.

Jono Grey, product specialist for Kroll Ontrack at Soft Solutions, says this will allow the company's network of resellers to expand their offerings. He says feedback has been very positive "within a week of the site going live" and expects resellers to take on the new services. "It is open to anyone, from the single user to the enterprise space," he says. "[Data recovery] is absolutely a growth area in the country and will stick around for a long time," he adds.

Soft Solutions' brand manager Aaron Bhashkar says the deal comes at the right time as "data recovery is more important now than ever".

"Our resellers are interested, from SMBs all the way to the enterprise, they are aware of this being a requirement," he adds.

The distributor says it is on the look out for more resellers to come onboard, either to resell Kroll Ontrack services or the entirety of the vendor's portfolio.
