Cappel checks into Imersia

Former GeoSmart marketing manager Luigi Cappel has moved to new location-based services company

After eight years with Geosmart, where he led the marketing team, Luigi Cappel has moved on to a new company and joined founders Roy Davies and Jon Lowther at Imersia NZ, as the company's CCO (chief commercial officer).

Founded in 2009, the company operates in the same space as Geosmart, providing location-based services, mobile, augmented reality and proximity-based marketing to a variety of industries. Cappel has also recently started his own venture, SoLoMo Consulting, a consultancy services business to help companies who need advice with social media, location-based services and mobile.

"[Imersia] actually started in development mode a couple of years ago, but I've joined the two founders at the time it is ready to be commercial," Cappel explains. "SoLoMo Consulting still exists and has a few clients but it is now mostly going on the back burner. I started talking to these guys as a GeoSmart client and then after I left and set up SoLoMo, we started talking about mutual interests and I got so excited that I joined the company."

According to Cappel, Imersia is currently working in a number of industries, "creating experiences that are tailored to individual people, their profiles and context and specific locations".

"We are currently working with clients in areas including FMCG, way-finding, home automation and mEducation," says Cappel, adding that he can't reveal any further details on these projects at this stage.

The company is "actively developing relationships with business partners" and Cappel says the business model "will be collaborative".

"Whilst we don't have products or solutions for resellers as such, we already have partners who are directly involved with joint solution sales and we will be seeking more," he says. "These will range from developers to systems integrators and agencies."
