Michelle Amery has been appointed the new country manager for the Symantec Enterprise and Consumer business in New Zealand, effective January 1, 2013.
Amery has been the consumer country manager since August 2012 and will take on the expanded role reporting to Brenton Smith, vice president & managing director, Pacific region, with a dotted line to Matthew Drake, senior director, consumer business, Pacific region.
She will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Symantec Enterprise and Consumer business including sales, channels, distribution and systems engineering. She will be responsible for leading the New Zealand team across both Auckland and Wellington.
The new country manager first joined the company in 1991 and has since held a number of senior roles, including running the Latin America business and establishing the global sales operations group, as well as leading Asia Pacific. In 2005 she left Symantec and returned to New Zealand where she was involved in the startup of two companies. Amery has a proven track record in direct and channel sales, customer service and account management.
“I’m delighted to be back at Symantec and taking up this opportunity to lead the New Zealand business for both enterprise and consumer,” says Amery. “Symantec has evolved tremendously in the last seven years and I’m looking forward to getting to know our customers and partners here.”
Michelle’s appointment follows the decision of Lucas Salter, current country manager for New Zealand, to relocate back to Australia for family reasons. Salter will take on a new role based in Melbourne.
“Lucas is a highly valued member of the Symantec team and while we’re disappointed his time in New Zealand got cut short, we’d like to thank him for all he has done in this market. We’re pleased he is able to take up a new role with us in Melbourne,” says Brenton Smith, vice president & managing director, Pacific region.
“Symantec has been operating in New Zealand for more than 15 years and over this time we’ve continued to build a strong team. 2013 promises to be an exciting year with the continued momentum of trends such as mobile, cloud and virtualisation, against a backdrop of increasingly sophisticated security threats and customers dealing with the challenge of managing huge volumes of data,” adds Smith. “Michelle is a highly experienced leader and we’re delighted to have her take on this new role.”
