Logitech UE Mobile Boombox

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox

Bluetooth speaker

Logitech’s UE Mobile Boombox is the first of its new Ultimate Ears range we’ve had the chance to test, and I have to admit I’m impressed. It’s a small speaker – about 11cm long and 6cm high – that can connect via Bluetooth to up to eight devices in total, and two devices at once. Setup is remarkably easy – I just turned on the speaker, pressed a button on it, and then used my phone and tablet’s settings to pair via Bluetooth.

The speakers have a frequency response of 150Hz-18KHz. That’s not at all remarkable, but the Boombox performs well regardless. The sound quality is very high for a device of its size, although bass is a little lacking. It sounded like the bass was coming out the back of the speaker, so if you like a nice floor-vibrating sound, you'll have to turn it sideways. It’s also surprisingly grunty – I was concerned about bothering my neighbours by playing it too loud, but there was no crackle even at high volumes.

The range on the Mobile Boombox is impressive, too. At one point there were three walls in between the speaker and the paired device, and my music kept on playing.

There’s also a microphone built in so you can use it as a speakerphone. It’s fantastic for that purpose – I was told I was being too loud, when talking at a normal volume from nearly a metre away from the speaker.

This product is extremely portable, surprisingly loud, and nicely designed. It’s the perfect thing to take to a party if you feel like hijacking the music.
