Observatory Crest adds to security portfolio

Threats to businesses mean opportunities for IT security resellers

Observatory Crest is now the sole ANZ distributor of AlgoSec's network security management products, the two companies have announced.

The distribution agreement means Observatory Crest reseller partners can now get all three AlgoSec products within the suite, including AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer, Fireflow and BusinessFlow, which have so far been deployed in over 1000 companies worldwide.

Observatory Crest director Martin Christmas, says the timing of the deal is perfect, considering the number of publicised threats to enterprise security that New Zealand has heard about recently.

"The market is ready for a product like this," he says, adding that "a lot of partners demonstrated a preference for AlgoSec". Christmas says he sees more money being spent in IT security in New Zealand so there are a lot of opportunities for partners interested in reselling AlgoSec. "IT security used to be a niche but now it's a requirement," he adds.

“Ever more complex network setups are not only a management nightmare but [have] opened security holes due to device misconfiguration and poor change management process,” says Christmas. “Obviously, the chance of firewall misconfiguration increases with the number and complexity of security policies for the mix of vendor products."

He adds that "managing firewall policies, and performing compliance audits and risk analysis has traditionally been a costly, inefficient, labour-intensive process and often resulted in errors impacting a business and its compliance". "Patching firewalls, monitoring configuration and assessing rule sets has to be more efficient and less prone to mistakes.”

The management suite complements Observatory Crest’s existing product set, as many of the partners represent multiple firewall vendors.

According to Guy Givoni, AlgoSec's vice president for the APAC region, the vendor is "not looking for a tremendous number of partners" in New Zealand, prefering to focus on a small but very knowledgeable group of resellers who are very focused on the product portfolio.

“In Observatory Crest we have a partner that understands our business and is committed to equipping its resellers with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide customers with an efficient and secure network. Together, we will help Australian organisations such as large financial institutions, telecommunications firms and others reduce network complexity, while improving their security and business agility," he adds.

The two companies say there are opportunities in bundling AlgoSec with existing security product portfolios, as the AlgoSec products sit across the top of the IT security infrastructure. The single console provides a view of groups of firewalls and other devices which help administrators gain greater visibility into and tighter control of their security infrastructure.
