Eagle and Cortell partner on Location Analytics

Partnership will see Esri Maps available to Cognos users

Eagle Technology and Cortell NZ are partnering to bring Location Analytics to Cognos users with Esri Maps for IBM Cognos, the two companies have announced.

Eagle Technology Group, the distributor of the Esri ArcGIS platform in New Zealand, has signed a collaboration agreement with Cortell NZ, IBM’s business partner for Business Intelligence solution Cognos. Through this agreement, Eagle Technology will sell and support Esri Maps for Cognos while Cortell NZ will undertake implementation.

“Eighty percent of transactions have a location embedded and that number will go up with the increasing use of smart-phones and social media that uses location aware data. Enabling maps in business and enterprise analytics is a logical progression but was previously challenging as it required custom integration to bring together BI and spatial platform technology," says Matt Lythe, GIS sales manager, Eagle Technology. "These custom built interfaces were costly and functionality was limited. Esri Maps for IBM Cognos integrates Esri’s enterprise GIS platform straight into the IBM Cognos BI architecture, leveraging in-place security, deployment capabilities, and scalability out of the box."

Richard Johnson, Cortell NZ sales director, expects a rapid uptake of Esri Maps for Cognos. “Rather than generate a report with a static map image, Esri Maps for Cognos puts data-driven maps directly into reports, using existing BI tools. The solution plugs into the Cognos Report Viewer, with no GIS experience needed by the report writer," he says. “Locations Analytics in the Cognos framework allows business users to see the impact of geographic data and spatial analysis on business data, interactively refreshing tables, charts and graphs within a report.”

Esri’s Location Analytics technology is being developed to integrate with multiple BI solutions over time.
