New Zealand gets its first Amazon Web Services Direct Connect service

Vibe Communications brings service to local market

Vibe Communications is bringing Amazon Web Services (AWS) to the doorstep of New Zealand businesses, as a provider of AWS Direct Connect services in the country.

AWS Direct Connect provides local businesses dedicated network connections between their own premises and the AWS Cloud.

It gives local businesses fast, flexible access to AWS’s flexible, scalable, pay-as-you-go cloud services which include offerings such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) among others.

“With AWS Direct Connect we are providing customers with a private, high bandwidth connection over a virtual LAN between their network and the AWS Cloud in Australia,” says Vibe CTO Davey Goode. “The advantage of using the AWS Cloud services is that customers only pay for the resources they provision and use. They are able to scale up and down as they need automatically or through simple point and click provisioning.”

Businesses can build their own Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) which enables them to provision a private section of AWS, where they can then launch AWS resources in a virtual network that they define and control, including selection of IP address range, creation of subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways.  They can provision virtual servers that will run on their own internal network instead of over the internet.

“This means customers can run file storage, backups and applications in the cloud, as if they were within their own network across a secure network connection,” says Goode.

In addition to providing private connectivity to an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, AWS Direct Connect reduces bandwidth costs, while offering consistent network performance, says Goode.

“As a dedicated network connection to Amazon Web Services in Australia, AWS Direct Connect significantly reduces the cost of trans-Tasman data traffic making Amazon’s cloud services even more accessible to New Zealand businesses,” he adds.

Being the leading service provider to offer AWS Direct Connect in New Zealand is yet another innovation for Vibe. The company was also the leading retail service provider to offer UFB fibre services in Masterton, Palmerston North and Taupo.

“We have been providing UFB fibre to many locations around New Zealand and we are again leading the way with AWS Direct Connect services to New Zealanders,” says Goode.

AWS Direct Connect is a perfect complement to Vibe’s UFB fibre offerings.

“UFB is built for services like this. The faster speed, lower latency and higher bandwidth of fibre connectivity will enable more New Zealand businesses to take advantage of products like Amazon Web Services,” says Goode.

AWS Direct Connect is available now to all current and new Vibe Communications customers across New Zealand.  Visit http://www.vibecommunications.co.nz/amazon-direct-connect/ for more details.
