CIO jailed for fraud “on a grand scale”

Pair imprisoned for almost 14 years for swindling $16 million from district health board.

Former Otago District Health Board CIO Michael Swann has been sentenced to a nine-and-a-half-year jail term for defrauding his former employer of $16.9 million. Swann’s associate Kerry Harford was jailed for four years and three months. In the Dunedin High Court Justice Stevens ordered Swann to serve a minimum non-parole period of four years and six months for the offences. The NZPA reports the judge saying, because the offending had been on such a grand scale, there was no established benchmark for sentencing.
