Maxnet acquires backup specialist DataLock

Auckland datacentre provider and ISP buys online backup firm

Datacentre services provider Maxnet has acquired online backup vendor DataLock. In a statement announcing the buy, Maxnet CEO John Hanna says “As a datacentre and internet service provider, being able to provide a sophisticated backup solution is a highly complementary offering to the other services we provide.

“We’ve been hosting DataLock’s backup services in our datacentre for a couple of years now, and we’ve seen the rapid growth that DataLock has achieved.

“So it made absolute sense to look at acquiring the business to supplement the range of services that we already provide.”

DataLock CEO Andrew Schick will move to Maxnet to head the company’s business continuity wholesale service. Maxnet will retain the DataLock brand.

DataLock is sold via resellers, who are able to rebrand the product under their own brand if they wish.

The acquisition is effective from April 1. Financial details weren’t disclosed.
