New winners join veterans as Microsoft awards expand

Mighty River Power’s Rob McNaughtan is Partners Choice CIO of the year.

First-time winners took the spotlight at this year’s Microsoft partner awards, with the number of prizes on offer growing to 20 across four subcategories. Microsoft introduced new awards this year including Business Impact Solution of the Year, Partners’ Choice CIO of the Year and MSN Advertising Partner of the Year.

Mighty River Power’s Rob McNaughtan was named Partners Choice CIO of the Year. McNaughtan was cited for leading complex projects and having client focused teams that helped place Mighty River Power as a leader in the utilities industry. “The Microsoft Partner community is a great asset and represents an incredibly talented network of companies. To be recognised by them as a leader in IT is truly humbling and a great honour,” he said.

The annual awards offer Microsoft Partners the opportunity to showcase work to their peers, and help them improve brand recognition, recruitment and staff retention.

Other new winners include OA Systems for CRM Solution of the Year, and Australian-owned software company Markinson Business Solutions, which took out the Partnering Award with Appserv.

Markinson entered the local market last year by acquiring trans-Tasman Sage CRM partner Adexio, which has two New Zealand offices. It built on that this year by buying Auckland services firm Zeron.

OA Systems, meanwhile, has specialised in CRM and business intelligence for 18 years.

Another to take the stage for the first time was Serko Online for the ISV Solution of the Year. The company offers an online corporate booking system, and was among the “Launchpad Best of the Best” winners at this year’s Hi-Tech Awards.

Two other winners also repeated earlier successes – Express Data won Microsoft’s global Distributor of the Year award in the US in July, while Auldhouse achieved its fourth consecutive win in the Learning Solutions Partner of the Year category.

Media agency Spark PHD IQ was another new winner, having been awarded the MSN Advertising Partner of the Year.

Gen-i and Enlighten Designs each secured two awards: Gen-i took the Platform Value Partner of the Year and Reseller of the Year; while Enlighten won Enterprise Content Management Solution of the Year and Business Impact Solution of the Year
