Rackspace officially opens Sydney datacentre

Plans to release Open Cloud offering later this year

Rackspace has officially opened its Australian datacentre for business in Sydney.

Rackspace Australia director, Mark Randall, said the new datacentre fulfills significant local demand for managed virtualisation platforms. It signaled plans for a Sydney datacentre in August last year.

It will be offering ‘open’ Cloud technologies backed with its 24x7 Fanatical Support and plans to launch its Open Cloud product based on OpenStack, later this year.

The facility features free cooling and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.3, according to Rackspace.

Rackspace has datacentres in the US - Dallas, Chicago and Virginia, as well as London and Hong Kong.

NumeroPro has partnered up with Rackspace and its director of IT, Shane Speering, said it was searching for a cloud partner that offered support and competitive pricing to deliver its childcare management software.

The company also migrated its servers from Rackspace’s Hong Kong datacentre to Sydney.
