Mindjet launches major Tasks mobile update

Modules and functionality added, as well as desktop app connection

Collaborative work management software vendor, Mindjet, has launched a major update for its Tasks mobile team and project management app designed to allow professionals to simplify their productivity management through mobile devices.

Tasks provides the distributed workforce with a mobile hub to manage projects, tasks and teams.

As part of this major revamp, Mindjet has added mobile team and project modules which enable management from the mobile device, as well as ‘instinctual’ gesture controls for updates, task tracking, comments and team management.

In addition, the new version gives users the ability to share information and plans, assign priorities and track tasks with multiple team members, alongside providing real-time updates on documents, and progress and plans, including team comments. Patent-pending auto-prioritisation has also been added.

Unlike previous versions, the new release offers instant connection with Mindjet Web and desktop to update or add content.

Mindjet said the app was originally created because effective team communications and project management have been missing despite the fact that a large majority of workers own smartphones (or other mobile devices), and use them outside office hours to check in on projects and email.

As a result of teams working virtually, increased coordination and real-time updates are critical to keep activities on track.

“Our research shows that most organisations are concerned about meeting the evolving needs of inherently mobile roles, such as sales and field service,” Altimeter Group analyst, Chris Silva, said. “These groups have distinct needs around not just consuming information on devices, but also creating and sharing information. The companies that deliver upon these productivity needs stand to capture a broad, dedicated user base.”

Mindjet’s Tasks is currently available as a free download via the Apple App Store. It is built for the iPhone, although the vendor promises iPad optimisation as well as an Android release in the fourth quarter.
