Apple trials selling refurbished products on eBay, reports say

The eBay Refurbished Store is believed to be an Apple-run store selling iPads, MacBooks and iPods

Apple is reportedly selling refurbished iPads, MacBooks and iPods on eBay in the US.

9To5Mac claims that the store, which is simply labelled "Refurbished Outlet", is actually an Apple-run Store within eBay.

"We thought Apple might be testing the waters to sell refurbished products directly to customers through eBay, and it seems that's exactly what is happening," 9To5Mac reports.

"We discovered that this is in fact an Apple-run Store within eBay. It is in trial, and it could open the door to much bigger things," the report continues. "No one would go on the record at eBay, however."

The prices listed on the eBay Store are identical to the prices Apple charges in its own refurbished store, and all of the products include a full one-year warranty, returned to like-new condition, iPads and iPods include a new battery, they have received complete burn-in testing, the original OS is re-installed, it has undergone a full inspection by Apple and have been repackages with manual and cable.

Apple's eBay Refurbished Outlet charges taxes in just a few states, rather than across the whole of the US as Apple's official store does.

Apple's eBay store doesn't appear to be available outside of the US at present, but as mentioned above, 9To5Mac believes that the store is currently being run as a trial, so we could see a similar store arriving in the UK at some point in the future should the company find that it is successful.
