Huawei to create 500 new UK jobs, HP adds 50

Tech companies in jobs bonanza

Huawei, the Chinese telecoms company, has announced plans to double the size of its UK workforce by the end of 2014.

It plans to recruit engineers, sales staff and management.

Huawei currently employs around 500 staff in the UK, at its headquarters in Basingstoke, and plans to expand its business with full-time and part-time employees.

Victor Zhang, chief executive of Huawei UK, said: "An increase in employees in our UK office will help us to provide more customised and innovative products and solutions for British telecom carriers, enterprise customers and consumers."

In addition, Huawei hopes to create up to 1,500 subcontracting jobs over the next three years, and launch a graduate recruitment scheme.

Huawei first established its UK headquarters in London in 2001, before relocating to Basingstoke in 2003.

Separately, HP is creating 50 new, high-tech, graduate to senior engineering jobs at its cloud services centre in Galway.

There will also be business analysis and data architecture roles.

The recruitment drive expands on the 105 positions the company announced for the same facility in Ballybrit in December 2010.

More information about the jobs can be obtained by contacting HP on galwayjobs@HP.com
