VMware seeks to make cloud provision easy for SMEs

Partners with Shavlik for Go Pro

Vmware is set to address the problem that many SMEs find when it come to using cloud services - the lack of expertise in-house. At its VMworld Europe conference, the company is releasing the beta of a service called Go Pro, which will enable customers who are unused tp server virtualisation by simplifying connections to the clouds.

By simplifying IT management, VMware Go Pro will increase IT efficiency so that SMBs can focus on high-value initiatives instead of routine tasks, while securing IT infrastructure to keep business running smoothly. The product offers what Vmware calls a single pane of glass to manage physical and virtual infrastructures.

VMWare Go Pro will offer its users built-in configuration templates, converter tools and compatibility checks making it easier for companies to create virtual machines from scratch. The product uses the VMware PV2 Converter tool to configurean existing physical server, create a new VM, or install pre-packaged virtual appliances.

"It's a beta service that's going to help SMEs move to cloud," said Rick Jackson, VMware's VP of marketing. "It also adds asset management."

Go Pro software has been jointly developed by patch management company Shavlik, who established its own cloud management system, PatchCloud, earlier this year.

"We are excited to extend our existing partnership with VMware, helping customers simplify their IT management," said Mark Shavlik, president and CEO of Shavlik Technologies, in a statement. "VMware Go Pro leverages our SaaS solutions enabling companies to break down barriers faced when adopting complex technologies, creating a level playing field."

Go Pro beta is available for download now and is expected to be publicly available later this year, said Jackson.
