Microsoftis planning to make a number of staff redundancies globally and in Australia.
The software giant is ‘rebalancing’ itself globally in order to create new cloud-specific positions. A local Microsoft spokesperson confirmed Australian jobs would be affected.
“Microsoft believes its future business is firmly centred on the cloud and we are rebalancing the organisation globally in order to create a number of new cloud specific roles across the business,” the spokesperson said. “We have identified roles that we will not be continuing with as part of our organisational structure as we create capacity for roles more aligned to this core cloud focus.
“It is part of a global change instituted by Microsoft world-wide.”
The software giant couldn’t confirm numbers or further details on where the staff cuts will be made across the business.
Last year, Microsoft cut 5800 staff globally. The layoff program was set to be completed by June.
