RIM expands market opportunity for BlackBerry platform

Introduces free new server software

A newly released free new server software from Research In Motion (RIM) can wirelessly and securely synchronise BlackBerry smart phones with Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Windows Small Business Server.

Most likely, users will be able to use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express as a free download in March 2010.

The new BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express offers a range of economical benefits to small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) that search for enterprise-grade security and manageability of BlackBerry Enterprise Server but don't need all of its advanced features.

Connect to work e-mail

BlackBerry smart phones are becoming popular among consumers and RIM has introduced this cost-effective solution especially designed for IT departments to meet the burgeoning demand from employees to be able to connect their personal BlackBerry smart phones to their work e-mail.

The newly released solution from RIM can easily work with Microsoft Exchange 2010, 2007 and 2003 and Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008 and 2003. This will ensure that users get to enjoy secure, push-based, wireless access to business applications and enterprise systems behind the firewall.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express uses the same robust security architecture found in the previously released BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Enterprise-grade mobile connectivity

This new offering further expands the market opportunity for the BlackBerry platform, according to Mike Lazaridis, president and Co-CEO, Research In Motion. It provides a cost-effective solution that allows businesses of all sizes to support enterprise-grade mobile connectivity for all employees scoring high on security or manageability.

Once the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is connected to Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Windows Small Business Server, BlackBerry smart phone users will be able to do a number of activities such as wirelessly synchronise their e-mail, book meetings and appointments, among others.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express can easily run on the same physical or virtual server as the Microsoft mail server or on its own server. It is also certified for use with VMware ESX, a Web-based interface that allows remote administration and makes it easy to install the software, connect BlackBerry smart phones and apply usage policies.
