IBM plans Auckland datacentre

Company won't comment, but sources say it's happening

IBM is planning to establish a datacentre in Auckland.

Sources close to the company say corporate approval has been received for what is believed to be a major investment.

A spokeswoman says IBM doesn't comment "on rumours and speculation".

But one source says: "You can go to the bank on it. They've had plans for two years to build a datacentre."

Another source -- an IBM business partner -- says the approval came through recently.

IBM has a datacentre in Wellington but not in Auckland, though it has been using the Air New Zealand facility there, part of which is sub-let to AT&T.
