NEC to lay off 20,000 as economy bites

Due to a reporting error the story "NEC to lay off 20,000 as economy bites" that ran on the wire on Jan. 30 mistated the make-up of the 20,000 job losses at NEC. Of the total, 8,000 jobs will be lost in Japan and 12,000 outside of Japan.

The story has been corrected on the wire and the second paragraph changed to read:

The NEC group, one of Japan's biggest electrical and electronics groups, will lay off 8,000 staff in Japan and cut 12,000 workers overseas.
