Acer targets gamers with Predator PC

Acer pushes into high-end gaming market with Predator line of gaming PCs.

Taiwanese PC maker Acer is going after the high-end gaming market with the addition of the Aspire Predator to its desktop lineup.

Clad in an orange and black case, the Predator is based on Intel's Quad-Core Extreme processor and packs high-end features, like a Blu-ray Disc drive, liquid cooling, and four hot-swappable SATA (Serial-ATA) disk drives. The systems also come with Nvidia's SLI graphics technology, which supports two graphics cards and up to four graphics processors.

Pricing and availability of the Predator systems was not immediately available.

Acer's Predator line will compete against other high-end systems, such as Hewlett-Packard's Voodoo line, as well as Dell's XPS series and Alienware line. The market for these systems is a relatively small group of hardcore gamers, but these systems command much higher prices that mainstream desktops, making it an attractive market for PC makers.
