Training tops Intel channel chief's list

Former Pakistan country manager takes over APAC

IT industry veteran and Intel journeyman, Kamil Hasan, has taken the reins as the chipmaker's channel chief in Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore. He replaces Marcus Low, who has been appointed as Intel director of South-East Asia.

"This is a challenging role, as each region in APAC has a different dynamic," Hasan told ARN. "There are some mature markets, like Australia, that adapt quickly to new technologies and some developing ones that are still just getting into buying PCs."

Hasan, whose official title is director of Intel's Reseller Channel Operation (RCO), said he would be pushing a training message out into Australian distributors and resellers as part of a global push towards a more aware channel.

"Things are moving very fast right now. We've got dual-core, mobile, an entire server line, Celeron and more," he said. "The channel needs to be trained and fully understand the range in order to sell them. A trained channel benefits customers."

Training will kick off in May at Intel's APAC channel conference, he said. Much of it will be across the basic product lines, but some channel partners will also receive what Hasan called "trendsetter" training, focused on high-end products.

Hasan has been in the IT industry for 18 years. He started with Intel in Pakistan a decade ago as a channel account manager, before rising through sales roles to become its country manager.

Hasan will be now looking after around 45,000 channel partners across the region.
