Asus launches new notebooks

Aimed at small businesses and fashion concious consumers.

Asus has launched three new notebooks - the W5Fe, U1F and VX2. The VX2 is the second series in its Lamborghini range.

The vendor claims the W5Fe is the world's first notebook with an external auxiliary display feature. This allows users to listen to music, view a photo slide show, and check emails or a map without turning the notebook on.

It also features a built-in swivelling webcam for wireless video communication. It will retail for $2999.

The U1F weighs just 1kg and has a fingerprint security authentication feature. It also has a leather trim palm rest, runs on the Windows Vista operating system and comes with a build-in webcam. The notebook retails for $3499.

Following on from the first Lamborghini series, the VX2 has added features such as Intel Next-Gen Wireless N, a 240-degree swivel camera, and a spill-proof keyboard with a leather-bound palm rest complete with yellow stitching. It is available in yellow or black and will cost $3999.

The vendor also took the wrappers off a multimedia navigator that has a 3.5-inch LCD screen. It supports MP3 playback and has 64MB of built-in flash ROM.

A new 3G GPS PDA phone, the P735, offers users the ability to make video conference calls and stream videos from the Internet. It also has a business card scanning tool that allows users to store the scanned information as a business contact. It will be available in late Q2.

All Asus notebooks will be available later this month through its distributors - Ingram Micro, Cellnet and Synnex.
