Poulos plans channel review at F5

F5 Networks will review its channel structure with a firm eye on the west following the appointment of former Trend Micro boss, Chris Poulos, as managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Poulos replaces Les Howarth, who has gone to Citrix Systems in the newly created role of director for its Application Networking Group in the Pacific region.

"Coming into this role, I can see some fantastic potential to further engage the channel," Poulos said. "We're in the throes right now of planning with the team and making sure we have the right partners in the right geographies."

WA and, to a lesser degree, SA, provided an opportunity for the business to increase its number of channel partners, although Poulos was hesitant to talk numbers.

He said it would also potentially look to re-organising its channel in the eastern states.

"We want to be able to slot in the right resellers at the right level," he said. "The mid-market is a spot we want to move towards in particular."

Distribution was also due for some changes, with Poulos confirming it was in discussions with one of its two Australian distributors, Firewall Systems, to provide distribution in New Zealand.

Poulos most recently held the Asia-Pacific managing director's role at Akimbi Systems. The company was acquired by VMware in June, forcing him out after only starting the role in April.

Prior to Akimbi, Poulos was a sales director at Trend Micro before replacing Kenny Liao as managing director in May 2001.
