Peripherals manufacturer Plantronics Inc. Wednesday launched what the company said is the first Bluetooth headset optimized for Voice over Internet Protocol VOIP).
The Voyager 510 can be used with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones, or connected to a PC using a Bluetooth USB (Universal Serial Bus) adapter, Plantronics said.
The device is optimized for VOIP because it connects easily to VOIP software on a PC, Plantronics said. The company already has a relationship with VOIP giant Skype Ltd., which sells Plantronics' DSB-500 headset on its Web site. It's one of only two devices Skype retails. The accessories maker also sells its headsets bundled with Skype software via Italian IT distributor CDC Group.
The headset is now available in North America for a suggested retail price of US$199.
