EDS extends alliance with Xerox

Services behemoth, EDS, and printing vendor, Fuji Xerox, have extended their global relationship to Australia to jointly target the office IT infrastructure market.

The strategic alliance will focus on desktop and document management services and the convergence of IT services for the digital office.

EDS alliance partner manager, Trisha Rogers, said the company had been reviewing its alliances program globally over the past six months and renewing certain strategic partnerships.

“The alliance is in line with EDS’ new agile enterprise utility model,” Rogers said. “Often our clients have businesses expanded offshore and being able to work with partners on a global basis allows us to provide consistency for our global accounts.”

EDS has also decided to renew its relationship with several other partners - Sun, Cisco, Microsoft, EMC and Dell, Rogers said. The change comes as EDS rationalises its approach to the market.

“In the past, EDS was as guilty as other organisations of acquiring different companies to take them into new markets,” she said. “Our strategy has changed in the past year and we’ve decided acquisitions aren’t the way to go.” The major trend in the office infrastructure space continued to be companies wishing to outsource for managed services and IT infrastructure, Rogers said.

Providing the best mix of services and hardware in the one offering was key.

“When customers outsource their IT infrastructure they want to make sure that they’re dealing with someone who has a relationship with market leaders in a specific space,” she said. “In having that relationship we can provide good pricing and support and having a global relationship allows us to influence Xerox in how we work in the market.”

EDS would exclusively use Fuji Xerox printing solutions across all of its accounts, Rogers said.
