Quick Poll: Best in show

How well is the channel served in terms of events?

By Reseller News Staff, Auckland | Friday, 19 February 2010

Many in the industry remember the days of large scale local IT industry events in the 1990s and early 2000s. Some of them were run by the former publisher of Reseller News – IDG Communications – including the Computerworld Expo which attracted about 200 exhibitors.

While its current publisher Fairfax offers events such as the CIO Summit, nowadays distributors, partners and vendors have taken on the task of providing some of these expos for vendors to showcase wares. These include the Ingram Micro showcase, which sits at around 60 exhibitors, the Datastor Forum, the IBM Forum and the expo section of Microsoft’s Tech Ed.

Eagle has added its Talk and Chalk day to the local IT events calendar, while there are numerous seminars and roadshows on a smaller scale.

How well served is the IT industry in terms of trade shows and events? What format should these take and on what scale? In fact, are they still of use to the sector?
