Quake forces Christchurch Showcase cancellation

Distributor to focus on supporting resellers

Ingram Micro has cancelled this year’s Showcase event in Christchurch after the earthquake that struck the region last Saturday.

In an email to Ingram Micro vendors and associates, managing director Gary Bigwood said he had spoken to key resellers in Christchurch, and 60 percent voted to cancel the event.

The main reason was local resellers expected to be busy supporting customers to “get back on their feet” after the earthquake, the email said.

The distributor would instead focus on supporting resellers in Christchurch.

The Showcase venue, the Christchurch Convention Centre, is being used as a media centre for Civil Defence, and aftershocks are continuing in the region, the email says.

The Christchurch event was scheduled for 14 September.
