Amazon Web Services (AWS) has hired Microsoft veteran and former commercial lead for Internet of Things (IoT), Lee Hickin, to head up the cloud giant’s IoT business in APAC.

“As the Business lead for IoT across Amazon's APAC regions; I am responsible for the execution, delivery, and success of the AWS IoT Services,” Hickin wrote on his LinkedIn profile.

“More so, I am focused on the success of our customers in leveraging AWS IoT services to drive innovation, automation, and savings in their core business.

“I have recently taken on the next big challenge in my career with a move to Singapore to head up the IoT Business for Amazon Web Services.

"In this role I am responsible for the marketing, sales, and partner development of the AWS IoT platform across India, A/NZ, ASEAN, and South Korea.”

Hickin is a 10-year veteran of AWS’ biggest competitor in the public cloud market, Microsoft.

Prior to switching companies, he headed up the company’s commercial IoT business from Sydney, and was tasked with creating a partner channel to bring Microsoft's IoT products to enterprise customers.

Hickin's new role at AWS will see him move to Singapore.

Hickin has also held roles at Microsoft as private cloud and datacenter solution specialist, online services technical specialist, and security technology specialist.

AWS declined to comment on the appointment. ARN contacted Microsoft for comment but the company had not responded at the time of publication. Hickin was also contacted directly for comment but had not responded at the time of publication.
