45 new vendors on board as Ingram Micro acquires Connector Systems

Distribution giant enters into agreement to acquire Connector Systems Limited, a value-added IT solutions provider across both Australia and New Zealand.

Ingram Micro has entered into an agreement to acquire Connector Systems Limited, a value-added IT solutions provider, representing emerging and developing vendors in both Australia and New Zealand.

Sources close to Reseller News, backed up by an official media statement, has confirmed that the acquisition is subject to certain customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the 2016 first quarter.

As a result, Connector Systems will operate as a business unit within Ingram Micro’s Value Division - with the price tag remaining private.

“Ingram Micro and Connector Systems are committed to working closely together to ensure a smooth integration of operations with minimal disruption to resellers and end user customers,” says Gary Bigwood, Managing Director, Ingram Micro.

“For the past 35 years, Connector Systems has been recognised by the channel for its focus on adding value for its customers and helping resellers grow their businesses.

“The Connector Systems team is highly talented and well respected in the market and their experience and proven skill set will be an excellent addition to Ingram Micro.”

Bigwood says the acquisition expands Ingram Micro’s solutions portfolio with the addition of approximately 30 new vendors in New Zealand and 15 in Australia, including Allied Telesis, Allot, Aruba, Aspen Optics, Brocade, Calix, Cambium, Molex, SonicWall, Sophos, Ruckus, and Yealink.

According to Bigwood, Ingram Micro can leverage these new vendors across its strong reseller base, providing “exponential exposure” for new partners in what he cites as a “win-win situation for all involved.”

“Ingram Micro is a market leader, which we believe will enable Connector Systems to accelerate our growth and profitability as we leverage the additional support, IT systems and access to capital,” adds Mark Dasent - Managing Director Australia and New Zealand, Connector Systems.

Privately owned by Kiwi businessmen Dasent, Kevin Swainson and Dale Smith - representing 45 years of combined IT experience - Connector Systems specialises in cloud, security, networking, wireless, storage and backup.

In New Zealand, key vendors include Brocade, Allied Telesis, Dell SonicWALL, CyberArk and Sophos and Fluke Networks.

Across the Tasman in Australia, the distributor is headed up by Country Manager Andrew Craze, and represents LevelOne, Calix, CloudRecover, SecureEnvoy and Cyberoam with Unitrends and Ruckus Wireless available in both markets.

Sources close to Reseller News says Dasent - who joined Connector Systems from Renaissance in April 2010 - will remain with the company indefinitely.
