In a first, AT&T stamps its brand on a tablet, offering Android 5.0, 8-inch screen

The Trek HD will have Android 5.0, but get ready to subscribe to its mobile plans

AT&T us coming out with its first branded tablet, even though global shipments of the devices are flattening out.

The Trek HD tablet will be available from the company starting on May 12 for as low as $49.99 with a two-year mobile contract. Buyers can also choose pay a total sum of $200 over 20 months.

AT&T already offers a host of tablets from companies like Apple, Samsung, LG, Asus and others. The Trek HD would be its cheapest model outside of refurbished LG G Pad 7.0, refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 and new Asus MemoPad 7 tablets, which are offered for free as part of its mobile contract plans.

The Trek HD, which has an 8-inch screen and Android 5.0, code-named Lollipop, will ship on Tuesday. The tablet offers eight hours of battery life.

AT&T considers it to be an entry-level tablet. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, which also has an integrated LTE modem. Other features include 16GB of storage, a micro-SD slot, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera.
