"Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region for Akamai, with increased growth from large enterprises, SMEs and start-ups."

Content Delivery Network (CDN) services provider Akamai Technologies has made significant additions to its team in Asia Pacific and Japan, with four new senior appointments.

Michael M. Afergan has been appointed Senior Vice President, Products, Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ).

Afergan is responsible for leading the region’s product development and product management teams, designing and developing products for local markets, and for overseeing product and technical engagement with customers and key partners.

Joining Akamai in 1999 as one of Akamai’s first technical leaders, Afergan has since served as Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Web Experience Division, as Chief Technology Officer, and has held key roles within Akamai’s Engineering and Product organisations.

Meanwhile, Lalitha Bhaskara joins Akamai as Vice President, Corporate Development, Asia Pacific and Japan.

In this role, Bhaskara will be responsible for all corporate development and strategic partnership activities within APJ, helping the company expand its strategic presence and investments in the region.

"Asia Pacific and Japan is the fastest growing region for Akamai, with increased growth from large enterprises, SMEs and start-ups, all looking to leverage cloud-based solutions to innovate,” says Sanjay Singh, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan, Akamai.

"With these regional appointments, Akamai has built a strong leadership team that will help drive growth for the company and our customers.

"We are confident that with these appointments, we will continue to accelerate and innovate our business in Asia Pacific and Japan."

Educating from the epicentre - Why distributors are the pulse checkers of the channel

As the channel changes and industry voices deepen, the need for clarity and insight heightens. Market misconceptions talk of an “under pressure” distribution space, with competitors in that fateful “race for relevance” across New Zealand. Amidst the cliched assumptions however, distribution is once again showing its strength, as a force to be listened to, rather than questioned. Traditionally, the role was born out of a need for vendors and resellers to find one another, acting as a bridge between the testing lab and the marketplace. Yet despite new technologies and business approaches shaking the channel to its very core, distributors remain tied to the epicentre - providing the voice of reason amidst a seismic industry shift. In looking across both sides of the vendor and partner fences, the middle concept of the three-tier chain remains centrally placed to understand the metrics of two differing worlds, as the continual pulse checkers of the local channel. This exclusive Reseller News Roundtable, in association with Dicker Data and rhipe, examined the pivotal role of distribution in understanding the health of the channel, educating from the epicentre as the market transforms at a rapid rate.
