McAfee targets SMB with new security suites

Scaled protection for multiple devices and Cloud management

McAfee has announced a new line of security products for small to medium businesses (SMBs). The Intel security firm said the suites will provide SMBs with protection for both data and devices.

The McAfee small business security suite is said to be optimised for businesses with up to 25 devices.

The security company also announced its endpoint essential for SMB and endpoint protection advanced for SMB for larger businesses with up to 250 devices.McAfee said the said the latter two are designed to protect devices and data while providing new Cloud capabilities for additional management options.

McAfee senior vice-president and general manager of endpoint security, Candace Worley, said the company hears about data breaches affecting some of the world’s largest and well-known brands, “nearly every day.”

“What often gets overlooked are the small main street businesses that are plagued with the same security issues, but often with far more devastating consequences,” she said.

The firm said the platform offers protection for PCs, Macs, as well as Android smartphones and tablets. A dashboard, accessible from the Cloud, allows management and monitoring of security subscriptions. McAfee said it also offers firewall, email and web protection, creating perimeter defences for devices.

McAfee chief consumer security evangelist, Gary Davis, said, “Security threats don’t discriminate by organisational size and for SMBs whose employees use multiple devices it’s getting more critical to have best in class security solutions.”

With the proliferation of the internet of things (IoT) and advent of bring your own device (BYOD), McAfee is clearly banking on these trends continuing. The new security suites are available now.

Educating from the epicentre - Why distributors are the pulse checkers of the channel

As the channel changes and industry voices deepen, the need for clarity and insight heightens. Market misconceptions talk of an “under pressure” distribution space, with competitors in that fateful “race for relevance” across New Zealand. Amidst the cliched assumptions however, distribution is once again showing its strength, as a force to be listened to, rather than questioned. Traditionally, the role was born out of a need for vendors and resellers to find one another, acting as a bridge between the testing lab and the marketplace. Yet despite new technologies and business approaches shaking the channel to its very core, distributors remain tied to the epicentre - providing the voice of reason amidst a seismic industry shift. In looking across both sides of the vendor and partner fences, the middle concept of the three-tier chain remains centrally placed to understand the metrics of two differing worlds, as the continual pulse checkers of the local channel. This exclusive Reseller News Roundtable, in association with Dicker Data and rhipe, examined the pivotal role of distribution in understanding the health of the channel, educating from the epicentre as the market transforms at a rapid rate.
