Symantec has unveiled a new $12 million Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Sydney.

The SOC comes as the security vendor celebrates its 25th year of operation in Australia, as well as the opening of its new headquarters on Kent Street in Sydney’s CBD.

Symantec Pacific region vice-president and managing director, Brenton Smith, said the new office and SOC is aimed at strengthening the security vendor’s presence in the region.

“We’re excited to open our doors to our staff, customers, partners and the wider IT industry to use this workspace to help better serve the needs of our customers and partners, and stay one step ahead of the ever-changing IT world,” he said.

The new headquarters and research facility will not only benefit its network of enterprise customers and partners, but also its commercial Norton business in the Pacific region.

Symantec entered the Australian market seven years after the company was founded in the US, with its first office opening in Birkenhead Point in Sydney’s Drummoyne suburb.

Since then the company has expanded both domestically and into New Zealand, and has eight offices and more than 500 staff across the region.
