Nutanix set to launch new hyper-converged platform at VMWorld 2014

Nutanix will also launch a new software capability in Cloud Connect

Nutanix is set to showcase a new hyper-converged platform and a new software capability enabling hybrid Cloud architectures that leverage public cloud services.

The new offerings will be launched at VMWorld 2014 (August 24-28).

The new hyper-converged platform, the NX-8150, is a hyper-converged appliance engineered specifically for applications that demand high storage capacity, low latency and fast storage performance, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, and Oracle and SAP databases.

A single Nutanix NX-8150 supports up to 3500 Exchange mailboxes in just 2U of rack space to reduce datacentre space requirements and minimise IT complexity.

The company is also launching Cloud Connect, a new software capability enabling hybrid cloud architectures that leverage popular public cloud services.

The Nutanix platform now runs any datacentre application, and enables turnkey hybrid cloud computing for any size enterprises.

Web-scale technologies were innovated by the world’s largest Cloud and Internet companies to overcome the limitations of legacy datacentre architectures.

However, keeping pace with rapidly changing IT demands and bringing Web-scale technologies into the enterprise means meeting a diverse set of requirements.

Datacentres must run business-critical applications according to their unique capacity and performance demands, according to a company statement.

In addition, the vast resources of public Clouds offer an enormous opportunity to design modern hybrid clouds.

The new NX-8150 powers the core enterprise workloads of today, while Cloud Connect supports the hybrid Cloud architecture.

Cloud Connect seamlessly integrates public cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), with Nutanix-powered private Cloud environments.

It allows users to combine private and public Cloud technology into their long-term infrastructure strategy without requiring third-party software or hard to maintain plug-ins.

According to a company statement, Cloud Connect provides reliable data protection and recovery that enables datacentre managers to deliver IT services and integrate in an open manner without being constrained by existing datacentre resources.

Mimeo IT director, Shawn Winters, said Nutanix delivered the power of Web-scale technologies in a turnkey enterprise solution.

“The new integrated Cloud backup capabilities offer simple, intuitive data protection without requiring third-party solutions," he said.

"With Cloud Connect, Nutanix has extended the already impressive functionality to the public cloud, allowing us to seamlessly integrate private and public Cloud infrastructure into a simple-to-manage yet powerful hybrid Cloud."

Nutanix senior director of product management, Raja Mukhopadhyay, said the company was laser focused on bringing Web-scale architecture to everyone in IT.

“Nutanix embraces the public Cloud, which is requisite for any modern datacentre," he said.

"Web-scale IT is already powering some of the largest corporations and government agencies in the world - now we are bringing it to the world’s most mission-critical apps.”
