IFS names new national channel boss

WA GM Rob McCarthy appointed national sales director for A/NZ

Enterprise application firm IFS, has named Western Australian information technology executive, Rob McCarthy, as its national sales director for A/NZ.

McCarthy, who is general manager of IFS’s Western Australian operations, will continue to be based in Western Australia, but will now take on responsibility for the Australian and New Zealand sales operations, including managing sales executives in IFS’s Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices, as well as being tasked with growing a Partner channel.

McCarthy was appointed three years ago as the first employee for IFS in Western Australia and has been instrumental in establishing IFS as a major enterprise solutions provider to Australian mining, oil and gas, engineering, procurement and construction companies, according to a company statement.

IFS customers include Alliance Contracting, Ngarda, ICON Engineering, Process Group, Brierty, Brookfield Multiplex, Burton Contracting and Georgiou Group.

His recent signing of Mid West Ports Authority, which manages one of Western Australia’s busiest ports in Geraldton, coincides with IFS’s international expansion in the sector, including a new contract with the UK Port of Dover.

IFS managing director, Rob Stummer, said McCarthy had been a wonderful addition to the team and had made a significant contribution to the company's growth in Perth.

"His knowledge and experience in the mining, oil and gas, construction and maritime services sectors has been invaluable and I have great confidence in his ability to now add value nationally,” he said.

McCarthy said IFS Applications was a very good fit for enterprises in the resources and associated service industries.

“I see great potential for the IFS team to work with enterprises throughout Australia and New Zealand to improve visibility and control over their operations and projects to become more efficient.”

McCarthy has 20 years’ experience in sales, project management and general management roles for enterprise software suppliers in Europe and Australia.

Prior to joining IFS in 2010, McCarthy was a project manager for a WA-based integrator of enterprise software for resources companies.

Educating from the epicentre - Why distributors are the pulse checkers of the channel

As the channel changes and industry voices deepen, the need for clarity and insight heightens. Market misconceptions talk of an “under pressure” distribution space, with competitors in that fateful “race for relevance” across New Zealand. Amidst the cliched assumptions however, distribution is once again showing its strength, as a force to be listened to, rather than questioned. Traditionally, the role was born out of a need for vendors and resellers to find one another, acting as a bridge between the testing lab and the marketplace. Yet despite new technologies and business approaches shaking the channel to its very core, distributors remain tied to the epicentre - providing the voice of reason amidst a seismic industry shift. In looking across both sides of the vendor and partner fences, the middle concept of the three-tier chain remains centrally placed to understand the metrics of two differing worlds, as the continual pulse checkers of the local channel. This exclusive Reseller News Roundtable, in association with Dicker Data and rhipe, examined the pivotal role of distribution in understanding the health of the channel, educating from the epicentre as the market transforms at a rapid rate.
