Hitachi Data Systems and Global Storage partner on local Cloud

Melbourne-based Cloud service provider picked as Australian Cloud partner

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has partnered with Global Storage on a local Cloud service.

The partnership with the Melbourne-based Cloud service provider is designed to ensure data is stored in Australia.

Global Storage CEO, David Duncan, said the deal has its roots in the Cloud company coming up for a large refresh on its own infrastructure.

“We were looking for someone to provide more than just infrastructure, and be willing to partner on our go-to-market strategy as well,” he said.

Duncan said it was important for the potential partner to make efforts in bringing the combined Cloud service to market, and HDS fit the bill.

“HDS made some advancements in terms of their whole go-to-market strategy around Cloud, and we came together at what seemed like a good time for both of us,” he said.

“We had our experience in Cloud service, and HDS had the appetite to partner with Cloud services providers to take those services back to their own market.”

Measuring commitment

Global Storage has been active in the Cloud space for several years, particularly with storage and data protection services, and Duncan said that attracted HDS to the provider.

Discussions for the partnership began in 2013, and Duncan said the terms of the partnership arrangement were only finalised at the beginning of this year.

“The discussion happened over many months as we were feeling each other out,” he said.

“We wanted to see if HDS were as committed to this relationship as we would be, and that’s certainly what we got from them and their whole strategy.”

Educating from the epicentre - Why distributors are the pulse checkers of the channel

​As the channel changes and industry voices deepen, the need for clarity and insight heightens.
