SanDisk unleashes world's first 128GB microSD card

It has enough room to store 75K photos

Almost 10 years after the microSD card format was introduced with 2GB of capacity, SanDisk has unveiled a new model of the popular removable storage card with more than 60 times that original storage capacity.

So, if you're in need of recording 24 hours of high-definition video on your Android smart phone, you're now in luck. In what it's calling the world's highest capacity microSD card, SanDisk today introduce its 128GB microSD card, the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Card.

The card has twice the capacity of the SanDisk's previous microSD model.

The card, which is just .59-in x .43-in x .03-in, is also available in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB capacities. The microSD card has a maximum data write speed of 30MBps, according to SanDisk. Pricing will range from $29.99 to $199.99

The card is compatible with Android smartphones and tablets and microSDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) and microSDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) host devices.

The new microSD card is also compatible with SanDisk's cloud storage app, SanDisk Memory Zone, which is available on the Google Play store and allows Android smartphone users to view, access and back up files on the microSD card. You can also set the SanDisk Memory Zone app to backup to DropBox and other cloud storage services.

The app also allows users to off-load files from a mobile device's internal memory to the microSD card automatically to free up space.
