Tony Bill to drive F5 Networks’ Synthesis vision in A/NZ

Appointed as managing director with focus on new architectural direction

Application delivery networking (AND) company, F5 Networks, has hired Tony Bill to execute its F5 Synthesis architectural vision throughout Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) as managing director for the region.

Synthesis is designed to assist customers in improving service velocity and accelerate time to market “through automated provisioning and intelligent service orchestration” of Software-Defined Application Services (SDAS) throughout datacentre, Cloud, and hybrid environments.

According to F5 Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) senior vice-president, Christian Hentschel, SDAS – the result of a “new level of global connectedess” driven by Internet-enables devices – is the next phase in the evolution of application delivery, and a key component of the Synthesis vision.

Commenting on his appointment, Bill said, “I am joining F5 at an incredibly important time in the company’s evolution. The new Synthesis architectural vision represents a meaningful shift in the way F5 markets and sells its solutions, driving additional opportunities.”

The rollout of Synthesis promotes streamlined interactions with customers and partners through simplified business models and enhanced go-to-market strategies. A statement from F5 states that Bill’s 24 years of IT industry experience in sales, marketing, general management, and strategic acquisitions position him to support the vision.

Prior to this role, Bill spent over a decade in numerous positions at HP, including that of A/NZ Personal Systems Group vice-president and general manager. He is credited with growing the vendor’s sales revenue five-fold during the tenure.

Educating from the epicentre - Why distributors are the pulse checkers of the channel

As the channel changes and industry voices deepen, the need for clarity and insight heightens. Market misconceptions talk of an “under pressure” distribution space, with competitors in that fateful “race for relevance” across New Zealand. Amidst the cliched assumptions however, distribution is once again showing its strength, as a force to be listened to, rather than questioned. Traditionally, the role was born out of a need for vendors and resellers to find one another, acting as a bridge between the testing lab and the marketplace. Yet despite new technologies and business approaches shaking the channel to its very core, distributors remain tied to the epicentre - providing the voice of reason amidst a seismic industry shift. In looking across both sides of the vendor and partner fences, the middle concept of the three-tier chain remains centrally placed to understand the metrics of two differing worlds, as the continual pulse checkers of the local channel. This exclusive Reseller News Roundtable, in association with Dicker Data and rhipe, examined the pivotal role of distribution in understanding the health of the channel, educating from the epicentre as the market transforms at a rapid rate.
