Cisco buys mobile collaboration company

Cisco this week acquired Collaborate.com, a Boston-based developer of mobile collaboration applications.

Cisco did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition.

Collaborate's products provide unified document sharing, task management and team communication capabilities that are designed to enable mobile workforces to collaborate on projects. Users can create virtual collaboration rooms where they can chat and share documents, notes, photos and videos, Cisco says.

Collaborate's platform also integrates with e-mail and third party cloud services to ease collaboration for mobile workers. Cisco plans to use the Collaborate products to provide a system that enables mobile workforces to work from anywhere.

Employees from the acquired firm will join Cisco's Collaboration Technology Group. Collaborate was founded by a pair of startup veterans who met while at web analytics company NetGenesis.

Cisco lists nine previous 2013 acquisitions on its website, including Insieme and Sourcefire.

Arrow Electronics introduced Tenable Network Security to local resellers in Sydney last week, officially launching the distributor's latest security partnership across Australia and New Zealand. Representing the first direct distribution agreement locally for Tenable specifically, the deal sees Arrow deliver security solutions directly to mid-market and enterprise channel partners on both sides of the Tasman.
