Extends Eyecon competition registration deadline

Photography and imaging vendor, Canon, has extended the registration deadline for its Eyecon Competition to October 31, and is encouraging high school and tertiary students to enrol to share their talents while learning from industry leaders.

Now in its fifth year, Eyecon was created for “NZ’s up and coming photographers and filmmakers,” giving young photographers and filmmakers the opportunity to be mentored by Brett Phibbs, Garth Badger, Emma Bass, and Lee Howell, and go in the running for significant prizes.

“Our 2013 mentors each have different specialties and distinct styles,” Canon NZ’s Rochelle Mora, said. “We know they will pass on a range of priceless experience, skills and advice to this year’s winner, knowledge that will help guide them through the rest of their career.”

The nationwide still photography competition is open to all students studying photography at a tertiary institution, year 12 and 13 high school students, and apprentice photographers. Film entries are open to those studying film at a tertiary institution and apprentice filmmakers.

The winner of the ‘Still Photography’ category for tertiary students and photography assistants will receive: $3000 Canon dollars; a Canon Pixma Pro 1 printer; $1000 cash; an ‘experience day’ with the mentors (flights and accommodation included); half-day experience with bcg2; A1 large format print of an image of choice; NZIPP and AIPRA membership for one year; profile in PR releases and through social media.

The 12 and 13th grade ‘Still Photography’ winner will be given the Canon EOS 7D 15-85is, a Pixma Pro 100 printer, and the same experience days.

The top film entrant will walk away with $3000 Canon dollars, $1000 cash, and an experience day with Badger.
